Formerly the 45 mindset, the 4 to 5 mindset was adopted by IB students following the failure of a Mathematics AA HL assessment on the topic of complex numbers. The goal is to pass classes rather than aiming for perfection, in an attempt to maintain sanity and for self-preservation purposes
'Nah, I'm aiming for a 5.'
'What happened to the 45 mindset?'
'I failed my math. All I want now is to pass. Its the 4 to 5 mindset :('
The approach to academia by tryhards in the IB. There is no win in the 45 mindset, either you get a 45, which is what is expected, or you lose. Anything below a 7 in any subject is decidedly bad.
Person 1: 'shit I got a 6 in my AA HL Math exam'
Person 2: 'That's so good! A 6 is really good.'
Person 1: 'That's not the 45 mindset'
Person 1: Hey man lets go out to eat tonight
Person 2: I can't I'm studying
Person 1: You're boring
Person 2: Its the 45 mindset
