The APU is a system om many airliners of today. It's like a really small jet/turbine engine in the very back of the plane. APU stands for Auxiliary Power Unit. It can be used for giving the plane own ectrical power(without engines running), and to start them. Some airlines include the APU in emergency procedures.
There's not really a sentence-based explanation of APU.
