A relatively niche and outsider genre. Related to synthwave and vapourwave, but distinct from both. It stems from CIS countries which emerged out of the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.
Tunes of this genre are slower-paced than synthwave, closer to chillwave or dreamwave, and have a 1980s influence present, alongside reduced bass and an aim for a more specific sound compared to other genres. Frequently, Sovietwave tracks also have excerpts spliced in. These excerpts come from a variety of sources, but chiefly they come from Soviet politicians' speeches, popular radio and TV shows, or Soviet cartoons. The aim of such excerpts is strictly to increase the nostalgia factor of such tunes, evoking a sense of a lost dream of spaceflight, a utopian Soviet society, or Soviet futurism in general, and not to send a pro-Communist/Soviet political message.
I came into Sovietwave expecting Soviet propaganda, but left with something else than Soviet propaganda - something much better.
(note - edited to provide a more accurate definition of what Sovietwave actually is)
Also: Brandenburg moment, Berlin Brandenburg moment (without the dash (-))
When someone realises a project will be repeatedly delayed beyond it's initial promised release/opening date due to unforeseen problems with the project.
Named after the infamous Berlin Brandenburg Airport which was repeatedly delayed due to construction flaws and project corruption, which finally opened on 31st October 2020, almost 10 years late.
Joe: Are you kidding? This new game has been delayed again until 2022...
Robert: That's a real Berlin-Brandenburg moment right there
Method of attack in military circles. As the name suggests, you dive before dumping a bomb on a target. Used as a means to increase accuracy of bombing, plus it is bloody satisfying, especially if you get a one-bomb double kill. Specialised dive-bombing aircraft like the Ju-87 Stuka, D3A or SB2C are used for such roles.
For best results, conduct dive-bombing in a Ju 87 with Jericho trumpets, and relish in the opposition's terror.
