Star Wars

Nickname for Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), a proposed missile defense system intended to protect the U.S from ballistic strategic nuclear weapons. Formed in 1984. In 1993, it was renamed to the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO).

Reagan: To get rid of MAD, we gotta make the commies show who we really are.
Everyone else: Won't this just piss them off?
Reagan: And we'll call it Star Wars.
