Stalinvast

A world in Ian Watson's Warhammer 2000 novels. It is a hive world in which humans live in vast enclosed cities or "hives", while the remainder of the planet remains wild.

The world is destroyed by the Empire at the end of the first book, to eradicate Genestealers and a demonic hydra-creature which had been planted at its core by a secret cabal.

It's a pretty strange name for a planet. Like, a Russian dictator who's put on weight? I'm surprised anyone settled there.

Dorthonion

A region of Beleriand, in the north, just to the south of Ard-Galen/Anfauglith and separated by a thin strip of land from Doriath to the south. It is a plateau surrounded by tall mountains which can be reached only via a few dangerous passes, which seem to lead mainly to Nan Dungortheb. Notable features include Rivil's Well and Tarn Aeluin.

Its role in Tolkien's book The Silmarillion is mainly as a site of a rearguard action by a small, heroic band of 14 outlaws led by the human king Barahir and including his son, Beren. It was overrun by Morgoth's forces after Dagor Bragollach, and became a scene of guerrilla battles until eventually only the 14 remained, harassing orkish patrols in the region. After Sauron crushed the outlaws, it was renamed Taur-nu-Fuin.

Sadly, the exploits of the outlaws were never turned into fully-fledged tales.

Nauglamir

Necklace given by the dwarves to Finrod in Tolkien's book, The Silmarillion. It was the most beautiful of all the treasures of Nargothrond. The name means "dwarf-jewel" in elvish.

It was kept by Glaurung after the sack of Nargothrond, and later retrieved from the ruins by Hurin, who fought and slew Mim at the gates. He then gave it to Elwe of Doriath for unspecified reasons. Elwe hired dwarves to have the Silmaril he had been given by Beren set into it, but the dwarves, overwhelmed with the beauty of the item, demanded it back, Silmaril and all. Elwe refused and they slew him, setting off a war in which Menegroth was sacked, Doriath destroyed and the dwarves mostly slaughtered.

It was retrieved by Elwing and carried into the west along with the Silmaril.

The name comes from Naugrim, which means dwarves in Sindarin.
