The ruler of the realm of Vassagonia, in the Lone Wolf world. Roughly equivalent to a king or sultan, the zakhan lived in a huge palace in the city of Barrakeesh, always surrounded by retainers and sharnazim guards. The zakhan typically demanded absolute obedience from his subjects, although history tells of a number of good rulers.
When Lone Wolf arrives in Barrakeesh, the old zakhan has died (according to the Legends novels, assassinated by the Darklords), and is replaced by a new Zakhan, Kimah. Kimah is extremely evil and is allied with the Darklords. He reappears in Lone Wolf 9: The Cauldron of Terror, at the head of the Vassagonian army besieging Tahou alongside the Darklord army, and armed with a lethal golden orb emitting a protective shield. Those who even touch the light-shield are killed instantly.
The Zakhan Kimah is one of the hardest opponents to beat in the entire Lone Wolf series, especially if Lone Wolf is armed with the Sommerswerd. (The problem can be avoided somewhat if this item is left behind for this quest, although the reason why this weakens the zakhan is not clear; perhaps the orb absorbs the sword's light?)
In the Legends series, the Zakhan Kimah is tortured and apparently killed by Vassagonian rebels, and a new, good-aligned Zakhan takes over. Although it is clear to a careful reader that he has not been killed, the series stops before this issue is resolved (only one book before it would have to be raised again).
The zakhan is dead. Long live the zakhan!

A type of TransFormer which has a Nebulan companion (a small humanoid) which transforms into its engine in vehicle mode. This engine is needed to transform between modes, and/or to release other features of the robot.
Powermaster Optimus Prime could only transform out of lorry mode once his Nebulan companion, Hi-Q, was inserted as his engine.

When you're biting into a waffle or other baked good whose batter has not been mixed well, and you receive a "blast" of uncooked dry ingredients - including the baking powder used to make it rise.

Elf of Nargothrond, a minor character in Tolkien's book The Silmarillion. He rode forth against Morgoth in the Dagor Bragollach but fell and was captured. He was then paraded in front of the elves at the Nirnaeth Arnoediad by orcs, and was slain. This served the intended purpose of provoking the elves, led by his brother Gwindor, to attack prematurely, beginning the disaster which was this battle.
Morgoth often enslaved elves and apparently set them to work in Angband, although some, including Gwindor, later escaped.

Realm in Beleriand, featured in Tolkien's book The Silmarillion. Surrounded by a magical protective shield called the Girdle of Melian. It was the only Sindarin realm after the return of the Noldor to Middle Earth and was ruled by the Sindarin king Elwe, aka Elu Thingol. Consisting mostly of forests, the realm was populated by Sindar. The capital, Menegroth, was a cave fortress built by the dwarves.
It was formed when Elwe, originally of the Teleri, got lost in the woods and met the Maia Melian, after which he settled along with some followers and did not continue to Valinor.
Elwe's relation to the Noldor (particularly the sons of Feanor) was always tense, especially after he found out about the Kinslaying at Alqualonde, and even more so after the kidnapping of Elwe's daughter Luthien by Celegorm and Curufin. Doriath did not send a force to most of the major battles against Morgoth, and in particular was conspicuously absent at the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, one reason for the elves' defeat.
Doriath was destroyed following the sack of Menegroth and the slaying of Elwe in clashes between the elves of Doriath and the dwarves of Nogrod over possession of the Nauglamir and the Silmaril which Elwe had placed within it. After Elwe was slain, Melian fled to Valinor and the surviving elves fled to Arvernien.
It was the last but one of the elven realms to survive.
