Interviewer: "It was a massive loss today, how's your team's morale?"
Player/Coach: "Well, first of all, let me tell you, we played the most amazing game ever. I mean, no one's ever seen anything like it. The crowd? Biggest crowd in the history of football, maybe in the worldâmillions of people came to see us. But you know, it was rigged. Completely rigged. The refs, the other team, the scoreboard, everything. We actually won that game, no question about it. Everyone knows it."
In this case, the player/coach has "Trumped" the loss by denying reality and making exaggerated claims of success.
