In traditional Indian style, the eldest person of the household is informed about the attendance of a marital or other family event in case they cannot make it on grounds of impurity. This impurity is comprised of having sex, having non-vegetarian food or consuming alcohol. However, indulging in psychotropic substances will not amount to impurity. It is because of this that Indian weddings/family events have a wide-spread buffet, baraat dance and lassi.
