weener

A term used when referring to dedicated fans of the rock band Ween. Weeners are often characterized by a bizarre fixation with the duo and interact regularly in the fan community.

Over at Hill's Ween forum, you can find some of the most demented Weeners around -- people unlike ourselves, willing to tattoo themselves with the almighty Boognish.

ghettoblaster

A boombox, a portable stereo system capable of playing radio stations or recorded music at relatively high volume.

Ghettoblaster is a term that can be considered insulting or complimentary depending on the context. The word originated in the US, apparently reflecting the belief that they are popular in poor inner-city neighborhoods (ghettos), especially those populated by black Americans. Ghettoblaster rather than boom box became the common term in the UK and Australia for large portable stereos, perhaps because it carried less meaning.

The term carries a connotation of power and disregard of social rules.

The word is racially inflammatory in some circumstances but has also been embraced as a term of black, urban pride รขย€ย” and, like many such terms, has been adopted by parts of the non-black American community. It is used as the name of at least one magazine and one recording company, and is also a popular stereotype element typically associated with funk, hip-hop and rap, African-American culture, '70s and '80s culture, breakdancing, and even racist jokes.

In the film Do The Right Thing by Spike Lee, a dispute over a ghettoblaster is a central role in the culminating riot.

ween

A combination of "wuss" (lacking strength, stamina, courage) and "teen" (a teen-aged person), often used as a derogative.

Since I bruised easily and had the physique of a stick bug, I was never into sports in high school. My father found that to be pathetic, thus dubbing me insubstantial in my youth -- a real ween.

Bill Gates

A term used to describe a person who gives more than they expect; an unselfish person.

Her distinguishing trait was her munificence: she gives liberally to those less fortunate than herself. People always said she was a real Bill Gates when it came to charity.
