It certainly predates that sitcom âFull Houseâ (where it was mostly used incorrectly) by several decades. âPin a roseâ refers to rewarding someone for a good deed. To say âpin a rose on your noseâ was a sarcastic way of saying you think you deserve an award, but you really donât. You might say it to a braggart. âYeah, weâll pin a rose (award) on you⦠On your nose!â
Saying sarcastically, âgood for you,â or, âwell arenât you specialâ have similar meanings. Itâs like saying, you think youâre so good, but youâre not all that.
Person 1: I havenât missed a day of school since 2nd grade. Person 2: Well, pin a rose on your nose.
