Vegan cheese.
Back in 2016 a woman on twitter had a big rant about how vegans should't call a plant based substitue for cheese vegan cheese, because in her opinion it is not cheese. It went viral and vegans all over the world started using the word as a joke. Everyone thought the rant was hillarious. Even companies that make vegan cheese, posted pictures of their product with the changed name.
Since then there were some serious considerations and petitions over the world to prohibit "dairy" names for vegan products, the biggest attempt being "The Dairy Ban" in the European parliament of 2020 highly pushed by the dairy industry. In 2021 the ban failed and there was no prohibition. This is why new vegans are less and less familliar with gary, but it should be written in history as something original and fun among the struggles of emerging vegan movement.
"IT'S NOT CHEESE IT'S GARY!"
*bunch of vegans posing for a group photo* "Say garyyyyyyyyy!"
"I made my first batch of cultured gary, wanna come over and try it?"
Form of seitan from Europe, made by Vegesnek, resembling smokey ham. Vegan alternatives got better than Rajko over time, but we still somehow like eating it.
"Man, I really love Rajko!"
"Are you gay?"
"No, I meant the vegan ham. It's really good."
One of the two possible methods of making seitan (wheat meat) at home. WTF stands for 'wash the flour', since its literally done by washing the flour, which extracts the starch from the doughball made from wheat flour. It's the oldest method of making seitan and it comes from Asia. Everyone can do it, but it does require some practice.
1. Seitan appreciation society group:
"How do I make seitan?"
"Use the WTF method."
"What's that?"
"Read the group rules and old posts."
2. "Wow, this seitan is delicious, how did you make it?"
"I used the WTF method, it tastes way better than VWG."
