Ninch

(Also ‘ninch or ‘The Ninch)
Informal term used occasionally by locals (especially in areas such as Rosebud, Hastings, etc.) to refer to the area south-east of Melbourne known as the Mornington Peninsula.
The word is a contraction of the word ‘Peninsula’ which is in itself an abbreviated way for residents of Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs to refer to the Mornington Peninsula.

“Garn down the Ninch this weekend mate?”
“Ah yeah, might head down Blairgowrie backbeach, see if I can get some surfin’ in”
