Asininestein

Someone who thinks he is smart but is actually very stupid. A "know-it-none" as opposed to a "know-it-all". In particular, people who assume their success in one area entitles them to respect in another. (etymology: a portmanteau of the words "asinine" and the name of the bona fide genius "Albert Einstein" - coined by former Jeopardy! writer Ryan Hopak.)

"Glenn Beck spews so much bullshit he's the ultimate asininestein.", "The character Cliff Clavin on the sitcom Cheers was an asininestein."

Fraudant

An idiot who thinks he is smart. A fool who attempts to teach. In particular, people who assume their success in one area entitles them to respect in another. (etymology: a portmanteau of the words "fraudulent" and "pedant")

"Rush Limbaugh spreads such misinformation he's either a disingenuous, Machiavellian genius or a simple fraudant." , "I can't decide who's a bigger fraudant; Glenn Beck or Donald Trump."

DLA Test

Inspired by the Bechdel Test which measures women's representation in films, the DLA Test measures violence in movies. A story passes the DLA test when the hero doesn't kill any other character nor is violence the solution. It does not require the total absence of violence; the hero and others may have to deal with violence but brutal vengeance is disqualifying. Pixar films and Rom-Coms easily pass the DLA Test whereas nearly every superhero story fails.

Gran Torino is an excellent film where the hero martyrs himself. But his architected violence means it fails the DLA Test. It's too bad so many great movies fail the DLA Test, but maybe that says something about our violent culture.

Vasking

VASKING: the act of wearing a mask after you’ve been vaccinated to keep others safe (in case you are a carrier) and to keep yourself safe from variants. #VASK
CREDIT: Tara Sands coined this word.

"Got my 2nd shot and I'm definitely gonna vask. Vasking is a public health imperative, plus I don't want the reckless lunatics to think I'm one of them."

Muddy Diamond

A "MUDDY DIAMOND" is a facetious, faux insult disguising a real compliment. The initial patina of disrespect is a way to playfully communicate genuine praise. It's kinda like mock sarcasm. "Muddy Diamond" is an antonym for "Backhanded Compliment" (which seems to be a compliment but is actually an insult). When an overt compliment would feel uncomfortable in the moment for the giver or receiver, a muddy diamond is a jesting way to convey real admiration or appreciation.

1) "Skinny bitch" is a popular muddy diamond.

2) It's odd that telling a woman that her boyfriend is too handsome for her is an insult, but telling a man that his girlfriend is too hot for him is a most welcome muddy diamond. Guys consider it a point of pride to date out of their league.

Little Adult

One of the multitude of modern-day, thirty-somethings who act and feel immature relative to their "grown-up" parents at comparable milestones in life. (originally coined by comedian Matt Price; co-star of TNT's "Men of a Certain Age" )

Despite being 32 and having a kid with his longtime girlfriend, the fact that Joe was playing X-Box in his parents' living room and debating going back to grad school made him feel like a "Little Adult".
