Reggaeton

Another name meaning BIG REGGAE was coined in NEW YORK CITY/ flatbush in the early 90s.

Reggaeton is simply Dancehall with spanish lyrics that uses one particular beat pattern that is found in old jamaican music like mento and the wider caribbean music calypso. Typical french and english speaking countries with heavy african populations

The basslines used in reggaeton can all be found in various jamaican riddims. There's nothing on reggaeton that is different than dancehall other than lamguage and the mixing of merengue bachata which still does not make it new genre its still dancehall. The foundation is dancehall
