A reverse engineered Mercedes-Benz ( by Toyota's own admission). Consistently emulate German styling cues, German safety, powertrain and convenience technology. ESP, ABS, airbags, direct injection, adaptive Xenon (xenon itself), air suspension, chassis control - all products of Germany, all emulated years later in Lexus products. Driving dynamics are relatively poor by European standards. The Lexus brand also has little to no equity compared to established Germans which have been making history for generations.
Lexus's are a smashing hit in the US, but not in Europe where they are perceived as gimmicky cars with no status, no innovation, no real chassis/driving engineering. Sales have suffered as a result
At the end of the day, you pay for the great reliability in the complete absence of any driving pleasure, innovations, style, or tier one brand status. Lexus has no premium super car (audi a8), and no motor sport involvement, no performance spec across the lineup (mb amg, bmw M, audi rs).
guy 1: Lexus like Toyotallly does everything so unique
guy 2: there would be no lexus without mercedes-benz you fool. Grow a pair, deal with the extra cost, and buy the real thing you cheap ass.
