A critically acclaimed song by the English rock band Pink Floyd. It is said to be an emotional masterpiece, which hasn't been seen in a long time. The central theme of the song is dealing with the absence of former band member Syd Barret, who was ousted from the band on the 6th of April 1968, as he had a psychedelic drug addiction that was getting out of hand. Personally, it is one of my favourite songs, and it is respected by The Silent Generation, Boomers, Gen X, Y, Z, and Alpha alike. The lyrics are as follows:
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
Joe: Hey John, have you heard of Wish You Were Here?
John: Yeah, it's a really good, well thought out song.
Joe: Ditto.
