tandem facebooking

When two people facebook together as a team

They comment on & "like" the same posts mere minutes apart. They also share pics & tag each other on notes. One will take the same quiz, add the same app, join the same group or become a fan of something immediately after the other one does. This type of facebooking duo constantly posts on each other's wall & shares inside jokes & obvious intimate understanding of their vague status updates. They may chat with each other on facebook even though they are sitting in the same room & could talk audibly instead.

These people come across as insecure, lame, cheesy & noobish in the ways of facebook. Everyone appreciates the feeling of belonging & being a valued part of their facebook crowd, but tandem facebookers take it too far & ironically alienate themselves to a degree. Tandem facebooking lowers social value even though the duo may find a huge sense of security in navigating facebook together. They may be trying too hard to look active on facebook or be too lazy to cultivate an original presence there while an ideal lies more to the middle of the spectrum.

One of the easiest ways for tandem facebookers to overcome this label & demonstrate independent thought & confidence is to sometimes wait a few hours between posting comments or clicking "like" on the walls of mutual friends.

Person A: "Oh, that group you just joined sounds funny! I'm gonna join it too!"

Person B: "No, wait! Wait at least a couple of hours so people won't see that we're tandem facebooking!"

Suit yourself

Do whatever you want because I sure don't care. Frequently sarcastic although one may genuinely be so over the friendship that they really are apathetic about it.

Used especially when you want to be done with someone who is choosing to be a jerk instead of being decent. A good way to end a tense conversation when you want to show your anger & disapproval of the other person's behavior.

Cade told his coworker on Thursday that he was going to call in sick on yet another Friday before a 3 day weekend, leaving everyone else to pick up the slack again. His coworker replied, "Suit yourself," hoping that the boss would finally fire him.

Elberton

Elberton, Georgia. Granite Capital of the World, a small town located in north GA near the SC border. Population 5,000ish. Isolated from interstates, many daydream about leading a glamourous life elsewhere when they graduate. You can drive across town in under 5 minutes if the green lights are with you.

Any shopping to be done beyond a grocery store or Walmart tends to happen in Athens or Atlanta, GA or Anderson, SC. The high school football stadium is one of the most unique in the country seating 20,000 on huge granite blocks. The high school mascot is the Blue Devil.

A quiet town where gossip travels fast, but there are wonderful, lifelong friends to be made. Many families live in the town for generations.

The Richard B. Russell hydroelectric dam on the Savannah River is a point of pride & there are many beautiful scenic areas for outdoor recreation. There are many fast food restaurants, but nice, sit-down establishments tend to struggle in this market. The churches are an important part of the social life as are numerous small businesses. Real estate is cheaper in Elberton, but turnover is correlated to the lower number of buyers. Occasionally, you can feel the ground shake if you are near a quarry when it is blasting out new blocks of granite.

You'll likely develop an appreciation for the peaceful, slower way of life in Elberton.

Another town of the same name is found in the state of Washington.

They drove to Atlanta to look for prom dresses because Elberton didn't have any.

Gee frickin' whiz, I knew I should've made that phone call back when I was passing through Athens, because coverage sucks around Elberton!

Did you know that Old Dan Tucker in that folk song was from Elberton?

Come to the football game at the Granite Bowl in Elberton Friday night; it will be fun!

Elberton is the real Granite Capital of the World even though New Hampshire tries to claim that honor too.

Elberton has one four lane highway, but confused outsiders tend to define it as a five lane due to the presence of the center turning lane.

No matter how far young folks roam outside of Elberton, most tend to like coming back to visit their hometown from time to time.

Do you think there will ever be a viable sit-down restaurant in the old "Cattletown"/"Gardens" building in Elberton?

usetocouldn't

Opposite of the Southern slang "usetocould"

In the past, I was not able to...

I was unable to do (a certain action) in the past.

I usetocouldn't bellydance in unison with a pink elephant, but now that I've been practicing for the last 8 weeks in dance class, I totally can! Watch!
