Transnistria

Transnistria is historical Romanian land now part of the Republic of Moldova that is occupied by the Russian authorities of the Pridestrovian Moldavian Republic. Transnistria is notable for its numerous human rights violations against Romanians and Moldovans in the region, such as systematically closing schools teaching Romanian or beating and jailing people that speaks Romanian in the streets. And still, the authorities of this artificial state claim to be the victims of Moldovan nationalists.

-Person 1: Yeah my grandmother was from Transnistria.
-Person 2: What happened to her then?
-Person 1: She got kicked out because she was speaking Romanian in the capital city.

Bukovina

Romanian historical region that suffered colonization during the 18th and 19th centuries. Its northern half was been under Ukrainian occupation ever since 1940.

-Person 1: Dude, the Ukrainian authorities closed by child's school!
-Person 2: Oh no! What are you going to do?
-Person 1: I will have to emigrate from Bukovina, our homeland, to somewhere else since I want my child to have an education in his native language.
