Saru mo ki kara ochiru

Kanji: 猿 も 木 から 落ちる

A Japanese proverb, literally 'even monkeys fall from trees'.

Used largely in admonition, the implied meaning of this proverb is that anyone can make a mistake. Often used to keep the arrogant or overconfident in check.

Worker: Watashi wa gouman desu!
Boss: Saru mo ki kara ochiru.

Worker: I am arrogant!
Boss: Pride comes before a fall.
