1930s anti-lynching poem written by Meeropol, put to music and made famous by Billie Holiday. Provides possible basis for the name of hip hop group "Strange fruit project.

"Southern trees bear a "strange fruit"
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black body swinging in the Southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees."
