A political epithet used by leftists against right wingers, particularly ones who are especially enthusiastic about their support of Donald Trump and/or express views that are viewed as racist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic and antisemitic. The term originates from a 1980s horror film series called C.H.U.D. which is an initialism for cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers. The use of the term as an insult against right wingers was popularized by the popular left-wing political podcast Chapo Trap House and other podcasts associated with the dirtbag left. Since then, the term has frequently been used by leftists on social media sites such as Twitter/X, Facebook and YouTube.
