Puta

As a native Spanish and fluent French speaker, I can say that the previous definitions are either definitely wrong, or are private jokes.

Puta means whore in Spanish. The equivalent word in French is Pute or Putain, not Puta.

The origin of both the French and Spanish words is Putida, which refers to a stinky woman in Latin. In other Latin-derived languages you find Puta in Portuguese, and Putana in Italian.

Spanish: Eres un hijo de puta! You are a son of a bitch

Laura es una puta barata. Laura is a cheap whore.

French:
Fils de pute! Son of a bitch.
Ginette a beau se définir comme une escort, mais elle est simplement une putain un peu chère que les tapineuses. Ginette may say that she is an escort, she’s simply a whore more expensive than the streetwalkers.
