bull market

Where people expect financial investments to rapidly increase, like in the economic boom of the eighties. It is so called, because masses of first-time investors rush head-first into the markets with thier money, expecting to amass riches beyond belief.

Japan's 1980's bull market was so good that, in 1989, Japan was expected to overtake the United states as the world's richest economy. The reccession of the 90's prevented this.

Today, it is just recovering from a bear market

Friday the 13th

The number 13 has long been assocciated with unfortunate incidents. This stems from roman empire rule, and christianity. Pirates considered Friday to be the most unlucky day of the week. At least once a year the two coincide. This is said to be the most unlucky day of the year, but only if you happen to live in Crystal Lake, where Jason Vorhees may murder you.

Friday the 13th? My arse.

war brought home

A war brought home is a war-by any major definition- started overseas that has been controlled there, has brought forth attacks on home soil. These attacks are not always physical. They usualy destroy the morale, and indifferance the opposition has felt.

The war brought home is often the beggining of the end for that war in terms of the attacked country.

9-11 was a war brought home for the united states.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were a war brought home.

The German invasion of the USSR was a war brought home for Stalin.

The realisation that machines could work faster than people in mass production was a war brought home for manual workers.

dynamic IP

A randomly assigned internet protocol from a pool of IPs owned by your ISP. The IPs are all usually in the same range, and you are given the first free IP when you log on. This means that your IP will change every time you log on (although there is a chance that you could dial up an IP used before).

The benefit of this method (as opposed to static IP is not security, but rather the ISP not having to maintain an IP for every customer, thus saving money. However, this means that only a set number of customers can be online at a time. This also makes the connection slower.

AOL and its subsidiaries (compuserve etc.) use a dynamic IP system. These companies have terrible reputations.
