The Batcave

Opened in 1982 in London, The Batcave was originally a venue for horror-themed glam, such as that of the house band Specimen. This, however, fitted into what the emerging goth scene was doing, and soon bands like Bauhaus, Southern Death Cult and Alien Sex Fiend were playing there. It became the prototype goth club.

I teased my hair to insane heights and went to meet my mates at The Batcave.

Deathrock

What goth music originally sounded like before the mopey set took over. A combination of horror-themed post-punk and rock music. Such bands as Christian Death, The Birthday Party and Bone Orchard helped create the sound, while bands like Cinema Strange and Bloody Dead And Sexy continue the tradition today.

In the early 80's, you could go to the Batcave to hear deathrock and post-mortem glam.

Alien Sex Fiend

One of the greatest bands to emerge from the 80's London goff/deathrock scene, ASF make fun, dark music "that has resisted over 20 years worth of attempts at pigeonholing, issuing 12 barrier-breaking studio albums". Their music has been described as "a strange and unholy grafting together of percolating synth rhythms and a ghoulish, theatric aesthetic." Fronted by the raving Nik Fiend and the lovely Mrs. Fiend, Alien Sex Fiend still make amazing music to this day.

Alien Sex Fiend makes me feel like a groovy ghoul.
