Ohwa

Ohwa is a village on the mid-eastern shore of the Micronesian Island of Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. Ohwa was derived by combining two Pohnpeian words, “Ohn” meaning vine of a large local yam and “wa” bearing large amounts of fruit. When combined the word Ohwa is descriptive of an ancient legend describing a place where many vines produce a lot of fruit. Long ago the area now called Ohwa was barren with many rocks and no plants. The male ghost Enimwahn came and decided to shift the land upside down so that the soil was on top and the rocks were below. This movement of the earth allowed Enimwahn to plant vegetation. There grew many different types of food and plants

Childhood memories of living at Ohwa inspires the writer in me.

photo shopped

Drawing from the popular "PhotoShop" graphic manipulation software, photo shopped refers to a personal style of hiding your flaws and enhancing your assets to make a better-than-life impression.

Conversation between two female baristas in a coffeehouse: "Did she photo shopped herself out?"

Enimwahn

The area located on Pohnpei (Federated States of Micronesia) in northern district of Madolenihmw. Enimwahn now Ohwa, was an independent area of considerable conflict and resistance to central authority dating back to the Saudeleur period, and later to include intense conflict between the Spanish and Pohnpeians, which erupted into battles between Protestant and Catholic forces. The word Enimwahn is the proper name of a very well known male spirit/ghost) which resides on the East Coast of Pohnpei.

Enimwahn appeared to me last night on the way to the shore.

lockin

An overnight or extended period of time when a youth group is confined to a particular space in order for them to appreciate what might not have been expected.

The public library invited all middle schoolers to a lockin featuring a popular rock band.

Our youth group held a lockin last weekend with many cool events.
