A slur against Christians, Muslims, and Jews, coined because the three religions all have holy places in the Middle East, which is very sandy. The term carries an air of casual condescension.

Muslims and Christians are just sand-worshipers. They follow the ass-backwards desert God of an ass-backwards desert culture.
