b) (new and improved meaning): any form of dysfunctional relationship
i would also qualify as a ménage à trois a domestic arrangement in which a a married couple live not only with their teenage daughter, but their teenager's boyfriend

A) When a heterosexual couple and the mistress/ lover of one of them live in the same household
B) a dysfunctional type of domestic arrangement in which a couple live with their teenager and the teen' s significant other
IMHO a guy living with his girlfriend's parents is a menage a trois, definition b). The other way around is not.
