Newton

The first popular PDA from Apple Computer. Early versions of the newton were slow and had poor handwriting recognition, but later revisions were very useful devices.

Newton was for a while a catch-all term to describe any PDA, in the same way as palmpilot and the british use of Hoover to describe any vacuum cleaner.

System Can't See It. interface designed for attaching high speed devices such as Raster Image Processors, Printers, Hard discs and scanners, but invariably involves spending twice as much as you intended and blowing out your logic board.

You must terminate both ends of the SCSI bus. Then yourself.

crotch burner

A laptop computer that does not dissipate heat terribly well, causing discomfort in the lap or crotch of the user.

The new PowerBooks are extremely fast but unfortunately that makes them terrible crotch burners.

3g

"Third Generation", the new cellular networks based on packet-switched always on packet radio services. Includes UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Service) and WCDMA (Wideband Circuit Division Multiple Access).

Advantages to 3G over older cellular networks include the ability to make live video calls, download music tracks and video clips, and access the internet at speeds approaching domestic broadband connections (Typically ~350Kbps)

pizza box

A syle of chassis for a Personal Computer. So called because they are usually similar dimensions to a cardboard Pizza box from a take-away restaurant. Pizza Boxes are slimline in comparison to regular full-size PCs.

The Mega ST was the same as a regular Atari S computer except for the Pizza Box form-factor
