Icing the cake

To speak against a statement you know is misleading and can be easily misconstrued from actual intentions, or sounds too good to be true. Used commonly for political polishing (pc).

Person 1. As a campaign promise I will get rid of taxes on tips.

Person 2. You are trying to buy votes, and icing the cake.
