Noob

The word Noob comes from a time when all games came in boxes, in 2004 downloading of large game over a few megabytes was unheard of. So if you wanted a large game like World of Warcraft back in 2004 when it launched, you had to bought a physical copy that came in a box, Wow's original size was 10 gigabytes, & would have taken weeks to months to download.

An acronym is a specific type of abbreviation that forms a pronounceable word from the first letter of each word in a phrase. And this is where we get the word Noob from, it is a acronym.

The word NOOB is a acronym, & in World of Warcraft, it was easy to spot a Noob from the endless amount of questions they'd spam in chat. This is where telling people online to "Google it" came from, since WoW had a lot of FAQ posts.

And we'd jokingly ask, "so this is a guess, but are you new to the game?", and they would replay with something like, "how did you guess, yes it's new out of the box". And like with all commonly said phrases on the internet, it was shortened to just NOOB, 'N'ew 'O'ut 'O'f 'B'ox.

NOOB is mean for people that do not know how to play because they just got the game. Someone that has played for months and still plays badly, isn't a NOOB. One is ignorant & doesn't know how to play & the other is indifferent & never bothered to care if they became better at the game, or it could be a lack of skill.

Today I find it amazing how few people remember where NOOB started, & what NOOB really means.

We were all a NOOB at one time, so give them a break. Attention NOOBS, we have a FAQ that should answer most of your questions. FFXIV patch 6.0 was amazing, wish I could be a NOOB & play that part over again & it would be new to me.
