BFE

“Bum Fucked Egypt.” Far away from anything, particularly used in the absence of modern conveniences due to distance from civilization.

The Americanized version is “Butt Fucked Egypt,” though the use of the word “bum” remains prevalent, perhaps even predominant, in the US.

Synonyms include: middle of nowhere, Bum Fucked Africa (“BFA”), ass end of nowhere, boonies, boondocks.

Origin: Likely World War II, when the Allies were defending the vast desert in British Egypt from the onslaught of the Axis powers. In documentary “World War II: From the Frontlines,” a WWII British army veteran says that soldiers referred to the desert in the African theater of war (or theatre of war if you prefer) as “miles and miles of sweet F-A,” likely shedding new light on the meaning of the term, along with the term BFA (“Bum Fucked Africa”), for many viewers. This would also explain why the term “bum” is used even stateside.

I’m stranded in the middle of BFE. No one is driving out here to the ass-end of nowhere to get me, not even Uber.

I’m so far out in BFE that I can see the stars, but I can’t send anyone a photo due to the lack of reception.

I just realized my tank is almost on empty and I’m out in the middle of BFE, West Virginia, I think I’m fucked.

If I get murdered out here in BFE, will anyone ever even know?
