Common street slang for 'potatoes', the world's fourth largest food crop, following rice, wheat, corn, and maize. The use of the humble potato should not be underestimated by any means. Besides providing food for a vast amount of the world's population, the Incas even believed that a slice of baked potato placed in a stocking and tied around the throat would help ease the pain associated with a sore throat. Many smokers the world over also find creative ways to utilize the spud in the same manner as an apple, this being the reason a less conspicuous word is needed for use in public discourse.
