A prostitute.
Year's ago I was on a train from London to Blackpool. On the same train was a very drunk Pakistani woman wearing a sari, who was singing with a very thick Glaswegian accent. The song she was singing went:
(to the tune of she'll be coming round the mountain)
I'm not a Hairy Mary I'm your moll,
I'm not a Hairy Mary I'm your moll,
I'm not a Hairy Mary,
I'm not a Hairy Mary,
I'm not a Hairy Mary I'm your moll.
I related this to the mother of the friend I was visiting in Blackpool, and she informed me that "Hairy Mary" was a slang word for prostitute.
There was something vaguely reassuring about seeing the effect that Scotland can have on a lady from Pakistan. Her accent was a joy to behold, even when she started telling anti Pakistani jokes. She was allowed to, she said, because she was one.
I'm not a hairy mary, I'm your moll!
