Hopeless

Since aparently it's so hard to define this considering all the dfinitions here are just angsty poetry i will spell it out
Hopeless to lose all hope

Person 1: Have you noticed a change with John lately?
Person 2: Yeah ever since Jane left him he's been in a hopeless stupor
