Toad

A term of both endearment and scorn for a cyclist that rides faster than him or herself. May wear spandex, slather his or her ass with Chamois Butt'r, or cycle in plain clothes. Can often be heard discussing Strava QOMs or KOMs, eats Gu, probably shaves his legs. You'll find Toads riding every type of bike available at the fastest rates, and encouraging all to ride faster and harder. A toadie will tell you 'if it hurts, you just need to get used to it'.

The term is actually an auto-correct of Roadie, a road cyclist.

A toad would ride through the pain.

"Leave pace open" -A toad tries to change her spots.

Toadies only ride Slowhibition if they are late to a ride, drunk or are celebrating debauchery and birthdays.

hookie duke

An off the cuff maneuver while cycling and leading a few hundred behind you that may result in a bicycle dog pile or a drop from the pack. This can be a sharp left or right turn, an unexpected U-turn, or taking that path less traveled by anyone much less on skinny tires.

A change in route, seemingly unnecessary, but designed to enhance the joy of riding, or an emergency tactic to avoid hazards.

"So, here's this month's route. It's a little on the short side, so be ready for some possible hookie dukes...."

Slowhibition

A rogue Monday night urban bike ride with alternating routes and varying destinations. Cycling at a typically moderate pace of 13-15 MPH. Founded by two riders simultaneously and separately. They soon began to refer to themselves as "B Team" and their founder (unbeknownst to them) has since then fought against "toad behavior" in all cycling. This group is routinely much larger than the original (Monday Night Prohibition Ride) having 20-40+++ riders on a weekly basis. They begin gathering at 8:00 PM Monday nights, think about leaving 15 minutes after Prohibition is LONG gone, and have an extended break for jackassery in the middle of their 15-30 mile route.

I got dropped from Prohibition last night, next week I'll rock Slowhibition.

Legend has it Fort Lauderdale's local eccentric bike builder and a science teacher started Slowhibition, but you'd never know it because he doesn't lead it, and she rarely attends.

Damn, I spent all day celebrating birthdays and debauchery, I'll have to find and ride Slowhibition tonight.
