A condition in which a written media will make a character, or characters speak or act in a way that seems contrary to their interests, past conflicts, or ideals for the sake of emphasizing a certain point or narrative device, as if the characters were reading off a script.
e.g. Leorio and Kurapika's argument on the elevator in the second episode of Hunter x Hunter.
