Amu is an abbreviation for "amused" or "amusing." It is used as functional adjacent to situations not rising to the use of "LOL" or laugh(ing) out loud, another popular element of Internet slang. It was first used almost exclusively GroupMe, but has since become widespread in other forms of computer-mediated communication and even (rarely) in face-to-face communication.
