Short to the house

Close to being home, mostly used in reference to being released from jail/prison soon.

Person 1: hey, whatever happened to your cousin Ron?
Person 2: oh he went to prison a few years back, but he’s “short to the house” now. He’s got like 2-3 months left before he gets out.
