Something that doesn't exist.
They are just mass Hallucinations.

for instance here are a bunch of people mass hallucinating the thing called friend
person A: Hey meet my 'friend', Z
persons B to X: Hi Z, Any friend of A is a 'Friend' of ours. Let's all be Friends (they said without blinking)
person Y (sitting in the corner wearing reality goggles) : *whispers* fools!!
