Stands for Laughing Out Loud. The most misused word in the English language. Usually said or typed with little or no expression at all, or when one does not know what to say.

Person 1: So I tripped over 3 people today!
Person 2: LOL.

Person 1: My headphones finally came.
Person 2: LOL.
