Points

Tenths of the principal of a loan. Especially the kind you get from a loan shark — your legit bank is going to speak in terms of APR instead. F'rill.

Note that “points” are *not* percents. One point is ten percent. This is why definitions of “point” as “percent” get such divided votes… it sounds kind of right, but it isn’t.

Note that “.1” is 10% — this is “one point.”

(If you doubt this, do the math with the example below, from The Sopranos Season 4, Episode 6.)

Ralph: “I won't be able to lend you money for less than two points.”

—later—

Tony: “I'll charge you a point and a half. And that's a lot fucking better than Ralph Cifaretto would do.”

—later—

Artie: “Then how am I gonna pay you back? $50,000, it'd take the rest of my life.”
Tony: “It's $51,500, vig-wise, Artie and technically, you already missed a payment.”

Chesa’d

If a city is Chesa’d, it is rotting. It means you have a progressive district attorney who doesn’t actually prosecute crime, especially if done by a nonwhite person. As a result criminals move in while people with jobs and families move out.

It happens all over, for example in Portland, Seattle, etc, but the name comes from the one and only comrade Chesa Boudin of legendary San Francisco.

Oh dude my car got Chesa’d again. I need to move to a city that hasn’t been Chesa’d yet

whoaverslept

Whoaversleeping is oversleeping so badly what, upon awaking, your reaction is: “whoa.”

Jesus, Mary, I’m sorry I’m so late. I whoaverslept this morning.

pita storm

“PITA storm is defined by Webster as: A series of pains in one’s ass that occur in a rapid and irritating sequence.” — C. Michael Close, noted horror movie director and software developer

While you won't really find PITA storm in the dictionary, this charming alternative to phrases like clusterfuck or shit hitting the fan shouldn't get you in trouble with any small children and/or Mormons that might be around — especially if they don’t know that PITA stands for pain in the ass.

“How many things can go wrong in one day?” complained M.F. “What a PITA storm.”
“Yep. Total clusterfuck,” agreed M.C.
