A person who tries to be independent and intelligent by distancing themselves from whatever they think is mainstream. They like to engage in annoying and pretentious behaviors, like writing grandiose definitions about themselves on Urban Dictionary.

Yes, worn and torn jeans are a very important part of American culture and ideals. So glad the hipsters were smart and kind enough to figure this out for the rest of us.
