a person who is not interested in or does not desire sexual activity, either within or outside of a relationship. asexuality is not the same as celibacy, which is the willful decision to not act on sexual feelings. asexuals, while not physically sexual-type folks, are none the less quite capable of loving, affectionate, romantic ties to others.

while many women involved in so-called "boston marriages" had asexual relationships, their partnerships have none-the-less been claimed by some as part of lesbian history.

an individual who is socially outcaste from the mainstream, or one who feels as though he is.

a peerless, shunned, or lonely human being.

i felt like a total pariah in junior high... i didn't really fit in anywhere.

hiking partner

a close friend with whom one hikes or generally hangs out with outdoors.

a euphemistic term denoting a same sex (often male) friendship whose level of time and emotional commitment may raise eyebrows among the less open-minded / their jealous wives.

a very old irish oath with several spellings, a bastardization of "christ", i think. my grandmother says this a lot.

"crimminy, ralph, the phone is ringing! pick up the phone! no, i don't know where it is. well, where did you leave it? crimminy, why did you leave it out there? no, never mind, it's stopped ringing. dammit, it was probably betty. frank's probably died and we'll have to wait 'till tomorrow to find out about it, now won't we? oh, stop crying, ralph! crimminy!"

epicene

an interesting term, now little used, that can refer to angrogyny, gender neutrality, bisexual attraction, or cross-gender identification.

jamie picked up the word 'epicene' one day, and it just seemed to fit.
