Playa Tech

A form of the musical subgenre Tech House but a much more spiritual, tribally, eastern, world music sounding, trance inducing, yoga friendly variety. Performed on the Playa at Burning Man and other like minded parties.

Rainbow: "Eww this music sounds like disco with a banging 4x4 beat, real keys, instruments and a soulful sounding vocalist sometimes behind it. What is this? And everyone's dancing so hard to it I can't even fit my hula hoop in here or do proper yoga poses without being knocked down!"

Robert: "Aww Rainbow, you're just used to sunrise Playa Tech because of all the Burning Man's you've attended. Here in the city people prefer dancing to jackin house music at a warehouse at 6am."

Songy

Dance music description; the opposite of tracky. In house and techno music, a track that has more song structure (vocals, verses, melody, harmony, chorus/hook) than it's repetitive opposite.

"Latch by Disclosure is a good example of songy deep house whereas Burnin' by Daft Punk is a good example of tracky French house."

"This DJ has been spinning tracky techno on 4 channels for 2 hours. If you want to hear more songy house and disco tracks go see the DJ in the other room."

VINYLJ

Like the word CDJ but referring to a vinyl turntable, like a technics 1200.

Could also mean "a vinyl dj" as opposed to "a cd dj, CDJ or laptop DJ".

Paul: "Okay so the parties on, I'll bring the mackies and the sub, you bring your mixer, CDJ's and VINYLJ's."

Steve: "Did you just say VINYLJ in reference to a turntable? Its called a turntable bro."
