People, most notably grifters, who claim that a certain decision ruined or will ruin a movie or video game franchise/company while claiming themselves as a longtime fan of said franchise. In reality, they are not actual fans of the franchise and are instead treating this situation as a thing to tell their followers to get mad at. Usually the most inconvenient of things.

They will often forget about the situation in a week, as they are busy chasing the next thing to get angry at. Hence why they are considered tourists because they don't actually represent the fandom and are only there for a day.

Most of these people are found on Twitter and YouTube.

Grifter: "They ruined the franchise by making the main female lead slightly less sexy. This game is doomed. Fucking DEI ruining everything"

Actual fans: Oh great, the Anger tourist has arrived.

Rent must be due

A term used to describe a Twitter Blue/X Premium subscriber who posts an outlandish take or opinion for the sake of gathering rage clicks and engagement. As a Twitter Blue/X Premium subscriber, the more engagement they get from posts, the more money they can make from Twitter.

People will often use this term to predict that someone who is making these outlandish posts is probably doing so to make enough money to pay rent.

This also applies to YouTubers who suddenly make clickbait titles and thumbnails out of nowhere.

A close encounter of the athletic kind

A phrase that many AI written articles use to describe a sporting event (usually High School).

If an article includes this phrase, chances are it’s a box score stretched out into an article with no real player names given whatsoever.

One article: Lancaster edged Ashville Teays Valley 24-17 in a close encounter of the athletic kind on Aug. 18 in Ohio football.

Another article: Chillicothe Southeastern edged West Salem Northwestern 28-20 in a close encounter of the athletic kind in Ohio high school football action on Aug. 18.

Yet another article: Tates Creek edged Eastern 21-14 in a close encounter of the athletic kind during this Kentucky football game.
