A word used in Hawaii meaning âgrumpyâ or âangryâ.
It comes from the Japanese word âhabuteruâ.
âBrah, Iâm so habut! You donât even know cuz!â
A mysterious island in Hawaii.
Itâs hardly urbanized, its people live old-fashioned lifestyles and they mainly speak Hawaiian, not English. Youâll also need permission from the Robinson family to visit Niihau. They own the place.
Ask anyone in the other 7 islands: 99%+ of the time, theyâll say they have never visited Niihau. Thatâs why itâs nicknamed âThe Forbidden Isleâ.
The last monarch of Hawaii. She was also the only queen regnant.
Her fame mostly comes from her downfall. In 1893, a pro-American coup was launched against Queen Liliʻuokalani by the upper class, causing her position to be abolished. Liliʻuokalani supporters tried multiple times to reinstate her, but ultimately failed in doing so. Not too long afterwards, the United States annexed Hawaii as a territory. She lived the rest of her life as a private citizen until her death in 1917.
Did you also know Liliuokalani was the sister of her predecessor, King Kalakaua?
The tallest volcano in Hawaii.
Itâs also a sacred place to the Native Hawaiian people, which is why when a company started building a telescope on it, a bunch of people got pissed and protested.
Protestor: ʻAʻole TMT! Mauna Kea is sacred!
