Traditionally, convicts or other thugs will get a tear-shaped tattoo under one eye to show that they have killed somebody. Tear checking is the act of testing the hardness of one with a tear-shaped tattoo to determine if they're actually just a bitch.

After tear checking the nigga from Tier 3, the new convict was rushed to the infirmary with life-threatening injuries.
