During egg production, the male chickens are ground up and used as feed. A cockery is a mythical place you tell children that roosters go after when they are "discarded."

I felt a great disturbance in the cockery, as if millions of roosters suddenly crowed out and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
