U. S. Navy abbreviations and acronyms that are widely used by naval personnel. Small abbreviations are combined to construct larger acronyms. A few examples of small abbreviations: NAV=naval, COM=command, LANT=Atlantic, PAC=Pacific, SUB=submarine, SURF=surface, RON=squadron, PERS=personnel, DES=destroyer. Larger acronym examples: COMNAVSUBLANT, COMNAVSURFPAC, DESRON, and many more.

In NAVSpeak, the Blue Angels are officially NAVFLIGHTDEMRON (Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron).

ghost bike

A bicycle, painted white, that is locked up at the site where a cyclist was killed. It is a remembrance of the person who was fatally injured or died at that location.

Joe was an avid cyclist who was hit by a truck. His friends and family set-up a ghost bike as part of his Roadside Memorial.

Obama Frown

Sad facial expression after learning about something that is unbelievably disappointing, i.e. bad news. An upside down smile with ballooned cheeks and wrinkly chin.

My girlfriend had an Obama Frown after I told her that I got fired from my job and got a DUI within a 30 minute timespan today.

An easy to assemble kit used to construct a beehive. Has to be placed in an open and natural area where there are a lot of flowering plants, and comes with a queen bee and other bees. The container buzzes since it contains live bees. Best to have a bee expert assist.

A video production designed to stir excitement and enthusiasm for a company or team. Usually played at a company gathering or just before a sporting event.
