Indie Kid

The average indie kid is usually:
- white and middle classed
- well read and well spoken
- likes quoting lyrics of the most obscure songs (favourites include 'Who's Got The Cr*ck?' and any of The Queens Of Noize)
- sporting blazers, pin badges, battered converse, drainpipes, oversized sunglasses, polka dots (before they - became fashionable), a cigarette, a book of poetry and a bottle of whiskey (preferable in a hip flask)
- vain/insecure
- into the whole boytouching/girl touching thing
- anti-'indie bands who have broken through into the mainstream charts'
- pro-vegetarianism
- wearing eyeliner
- into films, y'know arty flicks like Donnie Darko
- able to draw, or at least take posey photographs of themselves and edit them on photoshop
- into online blogging
- attractive

I'm not allowed to name indie kids i know, so I'll just say you're average Pete Doherty fan (god help us)

Indie Kid

Right so, an indie kid is someone who listens to..indie music O.o individual sounding, thus the "indie". Like Mindless Self Indulgence. Oh they cry too apparently... and how would they know?

Indie kids are actually generally happy becuase most indie music is happy too. Makes sense doesn't it? You CAN listen to indie and emo and not be indie or emo you idiots. I listen to indie and emo, and I'm not indie or emo. I don't cry much, I'm not depressed and I don't moan about how my life is so confusing.

So that's your idea out the fucking window.

If people are too sad they're emo. If they're too happy they're indie. If they're inbetween they're just boring.

For God's sake just grow up. People ae who they are. That's it.

Is nothing good enough for you stupid stereotypers?

Indie Kid

Contrary to many persons beliefs Indie kids are not mean, rude or sharp-ly sarcastic. Some people believe that they are a branch of 'Emo' and they are not.

Indie Kids usually are around 13 to 19, they like to dress differently and are very opinionated. They are quite calm and are usually hated and loved by members of the public.

Indie kids tend to pity Chavs and scenes, who think they rae so cool and different, when they are not.

Indie Kids Like to stay away from places that are heavily populated. You will see them more commonly in Parks or little Hole-in-the-wall cafes.

Indie Kids honestly do not care what people think. They rae the types to laugh when people are mean to them.

You cannot put your finger on Indie Kids style because unlike the typical Emo or scene, they do not conform to their own standards.

Indie Kids are not confrontational, and usually don't hang out in large packs. They are not loud and are sometimes interested in Things like The Mighty Boosh, The Flight of The Conchords, Oscar Wilde, Asian Candy, Messy Rooms, iPod classics, Banksy, N64, Catcher in the rye, Alice In Wonderland, Big Star, Astronomy, Photography and finding young bands before they make It big, but they don't boast about It, they just smile to themselves.

Scene Kid: I just saw my favourite band play live and I got a picture with them! I will, like, so put this on MySpace! Maybe everyone will think I actually kissed him!

Indie Kid: I just saw my favourite band Play live, lucky me, I will try talk to them backstage.

Indie Kid

What happens when a hippie and an emo have a baby.

Maia, our resident indie kid, is that lovely mixture of "i hate the world" and "i hate your businesses" too.

Indie kid

There are several key components to being an indie kid.

1: Listen to a million bands that no one has ever heard of. The less well-known they are, the cooler you become. Nothing makes you cooler than rattling off a list of obscure indie bands to someone slightly less hipster than you are. Remember, all well-known bands are sell outs.

2: Commit yourself to being different, specifically for the purpose of being more hipster than your peers. Good ways to be different include wearing flannel shirts, having shaggy hair, and making Juno-style, sarcastic jokes. Basically, just look and act like a hipster.

3: You ARE better than everyone else, and make sure they know it. Be sure to roll your eyes at anyone who doesn't know of all your obscure indie bands. Be sure to brag about the books you read and your favorite wine. Be a pretentious snob.

4: ???

5: Profit!

Indie kids are people who want to be different, but aren't mature enough to know how yet.

Indie Kids

Kids between the age of 13-22 who are full of themselves and feel superior because their music isn't mainstream and who will bash anything that's mainstream, even if it's something good. They tend to be arrogant and rude, and they think that they are just the coolest shit ever. They only listen to indie music and are hypocrites because while they bash the scene kids, they too all fall into a similar style by wearing tight jeans, faded colors, and converse. They also like short, dark hair for girls and longer hair for boys.

Indie-pop and indie are two majorly different things to them. Tell them that you like The Ting Tings or New Young Pony Club and they will laugh at you like the judgemental bastards that they are because that is not REAL indie you idiot.

They are way too caught up in music and it's their entire life. They will only be friends with you if you like their music, otherwise, no matter how friendly or funny or charming you are, they will hate you simply because of your subjective taste.

However, if you do manage to befriend an indie kid, it can be good because if they like you they will defend you to the death. They also can introduce you to lesser-known bands that will be forgotten in ten years and help you embrace the 'vintage' style of old plaid shirts and color palletes of gray and brown.

Person: Hey did you hear that blink 182 are getting back together and touring with Fall Out Boy? Isn't that great?!

Indie Kid: Tch fuck both those bands they suck and they're unoriginal and mainstream and I hate them even though I've only heard two songs from each on the radio and it will ruin my awesome indie kid image if I admit to even respecting or acknowledging them as artists.

Person: Well uh, they both kind of invented and furthered the pop-punk genre and will probably be remembered ten years from now so...uh what bands do you listen to?

Indie kid: -some random band that has ten hits on myspace and hasn't even released an EP- Fuck off so I can listen to my band without having to listen to your mainstream shit clogging my ears. You're a horrible person for liking certain music and I hate you even though I've just met you GOODBYE.

That's indie kids for you.

-emo kids listen to screamo music and wear black clothes.

indie kid: hey emo kid what did you do last night?
emo kid: oh nothing much. slit my wrists again.
indie kid: cool. i painted my nails and customised my grannys top from the 50s, so vintage.
emo kid: wow i wish i was an indie kid.
